Hi All, I have just created a monitor for IIS server as per link below but it does not genrate the alert. i have disabled the default IIS alert(IIS 7 Server Role) and resstarted the IIS service on one of the targeted server but not received the alert. Subscription is created for the same. http://www.bictt.com/blogs/bictt.php/2011/03/17/scom-monitoring-a-service-part2 Any one help will be highly appreciated.Rakesh Kumar

when you restart a service it will autoclose when the service is started again if you even get an alert (not sure with this monitor, but i assume there's a 1-5 minutes poll interval for the service running check).Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/

Agreed with Pavel. Sounds like either the conditions you are looking for are not being met, or the discovery of the class that represents the service did not work. Is the agent gray?Microsoft Corporation

path should not be empty, likely you did not choose your service class. here is an example of how view should look

Hi, seeing youre using my post I will also jump in :-) DId you write that you are targetting against a custom group called crm monitoring? Hope you didn't do that from the initial screens. I used the windows computer as a target. disabled the monitor (so enabled is not selected). Next selected the service (world wide web service). Turn alerting on for the monitor. Next override the monitor in order to enable it for one computer or a custom group with computers. Wait a few minutes and open a health explorer (see screenshot below all the way at the bottom where it says www service monitor) and it should show up green at first. next stop the world wide web service and see what happens. in my case within 1 minute I get alerts from both IIS mp and the custom monitor (see the alert view at the top of the screenshot and the monitor turned red as well). Hope it helps.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient

And yes, if a default mp already covers what you want (IIS mp and/or CRM mp) this would be better than customizing and turning off the monitors in the IIS mp for instance. But I think this is just a case of targetting to get your custom service monitored.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient
