Basic Service Monitor not working with Windows 2008 OS Agents
Hi My test environment is SCOM 2012 beta with windows 2008 R2 but I can confirm that the monitor works fine for me in monitoring the Print Spooler Service. Is it just one agent that you have "problems" with? Or does it not work on any Windows 2008 agent? You might want to flush the health state folder on the agent and see if that kicks it into action: - stop the system center management service on the agent - rename the program files\system center operations manager 2007\health service state folder - start the system center management service on the agent Cheers Graham New SCOM 2012 Blog! - http://www.systemcentersolutions.com/blog/ View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

monitor target = Windows Computer Parent monitor = Availabilty What's strange is I have the monitor saved in a custom management pack, the override enabled and assigned to a target group which has 2000, 2003 and 2008 agents, but the monitor only works with the 2000 and 2003 agents in the computer and non of the 2008 agents.

Hi Could you clarify what you mean by "not working" - in health explorer for a windows 2008 agent, is the monitor empty (not monitored) or is it that it is healthy even when you stop the service? What service are you monitoring? Has the service name changed between windows 2003 and windows 2008? When I open health explorer for the 2008 agent I'm testing, I see the service monitor and it's checked and green. When I click on it and look at the State Change Events, there is only one event and that the service is running. I have stopped and started the service multiple times on the agent and nothing gets logged in the State Change Events for the monitor. Nothing is reported back to the RMS when the service on the agent is stopped. I checked the event logs on the agent and no errors are generated there. To you have agents running 2008 where you have the basic service monitor working? Just curious to see if it's a Microsoft bug?

When I open up health explorer for the 2008 agent, the basic service monitor is checked and green. When I click on the State Change Events tab, there is only one event and that was generated when the monitor was created indicating the "Service is running". I have bounced the service multiple times on the 2008 agent and the basic service monitor never acknowledges the service being stopped. For testing purposes, I selected the print spooler. When I open health explorer for the 2008 agent, select the print spooler service monitor I created and look at the detail pane in the State Change Events tab, the name and binaryPathName are set to: Name=Spooler BinaryPathName=C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe I verified this against the print spooler service properties on the 2008 agent and they match.

Anyone having issues with getting basic service monitor working on an agent running Windows 2008? My RMS is running R2 with cumulitive update 5 and I have the latest Windows OS management packs installed. The basic service monitor works fine with my 2000 and 2003 OS agents, but I have had no luck with getting it to work on any of my 2008 OS agents.
