We have an activity running for client remediation on thousands of computers that doesn't have an active client or reporting inactive in the reports. When pinged majority of these machines show a bad host name error. Can some one suggest what can be done with these machines ? Machines online are being successfully remediated  with wmi repair or service restart scripts. Can we ignore all these machines with bad host names or can something be done to bring them back online ?

I would suggest that you compare it with last logon in AD for instance then you now if the machine still exists or not.
