Hi,you can choose to backup SharePoint using either SharePoint tools/3'rd partyor SQL Server tools.Check this links: Back up and restore an entire farm (Office SharePoint Server 2007): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262412.aspx Back up and restore the entire farm (Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 technology): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288019.aspx Back up, restore, or move a SharePoint site: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointdesigner/HA100699391033.aspxI prefer doing backup using SQL Server!Cheers, Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: Daniel Bugday's SharePoint Blog

Hi,At a high level you want to do this, or a combination, which those doc's will help with.1> Backup any custom code that you have deployed - such as changes additions to the hive, etc.2> Backup IIS - any web.configs or settings you changed from the default.3> Consider backuping up sites through the command line (stsadm)4> Backup SharePoint through central Admin.5> Backup all SharePoint related SQL db's6> Do system state and file system backups of your servers. You should also take a look at DPM 2007 - this works great for SharePoint and SQL:http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/6/4/6643c1fb-b9ce-4d62-8955-c3f6f7f3ddba/DPM2007_datasheet_How_to_protect_SharePoint.pdfJoel Oleson also as a good post on SharePoint backup:http://blogs.msdn.com/joelo/archive/2007/10/25/backup-restore-and-data-protection-manager-2007-rtm.aspxHope that helps. Hmm, this question is marked as answered, but I read through each of the links and found no direct information regarding why you would define simple or full backups for each of the SharePoint databases. This information would be helpful for me as well being we are in the process of defining our backup strategy. It looks like the the SharePoint install process marks some databases for simple and others for full backup. The links that people responded with go into great detail as to the HOW but do not address WHY. When drafting a policy documenting WHY something must occur is generally more important than HOW the specific mechanics of the process works. Without understanding WHY something needs to be done a certain way you can never revisit the implemented process to see if there are any improvements that need to be made. I'll get off my soap box now, but I find this to be a very pervasive problem throughout these forums.
