I am about to deploy a SharePoint 2007 with WebPart project and need immediate help. Before I run the deployment process; I need to to know a quick way to backup that specific site and restore if my deploymnet fails.

You can't back up a site. How are you deploying the web part? Is it part of a .wsp SharePoint solution? You can backup the site collection or content database. If you do this when users are not accessing the farm you could then restore either if the deployment fails (if it's a solution you're deploying you will want to first retract and delete it before restoring). Hi, You can use export/import command to take backup/restore your specific site or subsite. Export a subsite or site collection stsadm o export url http://server1:1000/subsite filename c:\Subsite.bak To import this exported site into another site collection/subsite, use the following command: stsadm o import url http://server2:1001/subsite filename c:\Subsaite.bak Better keep backup of your content database if you find any risk. Hope it could help Cheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

Run a full farm backup (catastrophic backup) for best results. If there is an issue you can retract and delete the solution and restore the backup if necessary. Jason Warren Infrastructure Architect Habanero Consulting Group habaneroconsulting.com/blog

You can do the export of the site as mentioned above - if you see errors during the export, try an account with more privleges. Typically, I find that my spsadm account doesn't have enough privleges to get things like this done like I expect, so I have to move to higher accounts. Note that any other changes to the account that occur between the time of the export and the import you would use to recover will be lost. Alternatives of using a site collection or content database backup to restore the site are probably not what you are going to want. If the site is not large, you might try saving the site off as a template. Remember, however, to ensure that the checkbox to "include the site's data" is actually checked.

What does the "saving the site off as a template" do?

You need to pass your subsite url like: http://servername:portnum/sites/subsitename (you need to remove default.aspx page from your site URL and copy and paste url after -url parameter. it may be your site collection or subsite url. hope it could helpCheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

Read http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/save-a-site-as-a-site-template-HA010157779.aspx for information about it. Basically, it creates a file that can be used to create a site that has the features and data of an existing site. It isn't technically a "backup" of the site, however, if the other options people have given you are not acceptable for one reason or another, it is another method of doing something similar to what you have described.
