Backing up protected servers on DPM1 using DPM2

Hi there...

We have a DPM1 server and DPM2 server.  The DPM2 server is able to back up the OS and SQL DB of DPM1.  Should I be able to backup the protected servers that DPM1 protects with DPM2?  I get a message saying that DPM2 is unable to get a list of data sources on all of the protected servers from DPM1.   I should mention that the 2 servers are on Cu5.  The protected servers are on Cu1 - not sure if this matters, or not?  I can see in the DPMRA logs on the protected servers that the 2nd DPM2 server is hitting them.  If some one could help decipher the logs, I would be happy to post one of them off one of the protected servers.

Thanks in advance.

I get a message saying that DPM2 is unable to get a list of data sources on all of the protected servers from DPM1.

There is a firewall between DPM1 and its protected servers = the DPM Ports have been opened. (backups working)

There is a firewall between DPM1 and DPM2  - the DPM firewall ports have been opened. (DPM2 sees DPM1's OS, Volumes and local SQL DB).

There is a firewall between DPM1's Protected servers and DPM2 - the firewall ports are not opened. But shouldn't DPM2 still be able to expand out DPM1's Protected Servers and SQL Clusters?  I read in another post in this forum that you cant use the Protected server tree - is this true?

Any insight is appreciated.

Here is a screen capture of the entire tree from the DPM2 server.  Both SQL Clusters hang at the hourglass, as well as the servers under the Protected Servers tree.....

Hi,

As both of your DPM servers are on UR5 as outlined in original post (mention that the 2 servers are on Cu5.) I would suggest to trigger a fresh inquiry to obtain the latest data sources (and to update the cache), you must click Refresh after you select the production server (in your scenario selecting DPM1 when creating secondary protection from DPM 2). Please see below blog for details

I have done a complete refresh of the primary DPM server from the secondary DPM server console.

When refreshing and expanding the SQL clusters or each SQL server that is a part of the clusters, the hourglass appears for a minute then replies back with error ID 33119.

When refreshing and expanding the SQL server under protected servers that is not a part of any cluster, there is one small glimmer of hope and I can see its databases and I am able to add them to the selected members side. It then halts at the Review Disk Allocation dialog box and returns error ID 31 - RPC Server is unavailable.

A few questions:

Do the firewall ports need to be opened between the DPM1 Replicas and DPM2 Secondary Server?

Is there anything else I can try?

Is there a way to increase the log level on the DPMRA - primary replicas?

Thanks.
