It does not.
If you want a scheduled backup, you need to use central admin or use a windows scheduled job in conjunctions with stsadm.
Or, use a 3rd party tool like data protection manager.--Paul Galvin, Computer Generated Solutions (CGS)

Steven,
Using the below script try to create .bat file then create a new Scheduled Task in
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Scheduled Task
Then right click the newly created Scheduled Task, under Task
tab in Run text box provide the newly created .bat file location
Under Schedule tab you can select the Schedule Task (Daily, Weekly etc.,) If you click on
Advanced button you will get an option of repeating the task for every 10, 20, 30 minutes etc.
@echo off
cls
@set PATH=%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN;%PATH%
echo --- Started back up of Sharepoint site
@stsadm -o backup -url http://Sharepointsiteurl -filename c:\<backup directory>\filename_%TIME%.bak
