I have a SharePoint list that behaves differently from other lists with regard to using the back button. When  a user selects a list item to put in view mode (DispForm.aspx), then uses the back arrow to return to the list, the page just refreshes; it doesn't go back. Same in EditForm.aspx. 

Anyone know what might be causing this and a possible solution?

From your description, my understanding is that in a special list  when you navigate to the DispForm.aspx/EditForm.aspx page, back button of the browser is not working. 

To narrow down the issue, i would like to collect the following information.

What template is your issue list? custom list?

Have you ever customized  the list form with InfoPath or SharePoint Designer?

Change an browser to check whether the issue exists.

The site is a teamsite.  It worked when it was in SP 2007.  It broke on this list when after migrating to SP 2013. This list has not been customized in InfoPath or Designer.  The back button does not work in IE10 and IE11, Chrome 44, of FF 37.
