BIDS odbc 64 bit
Newbie to the technology. I am using BIDS 10.50.1600.1 (the one that came with SQL Server 2008 R2). This is the 64 bit release. When I create either a project in SSIS, SSAS or SSRS and I try to define a data source. To create a data source I use the following provider <.Net Providers\Odbc Data Provider>. In the list for the system data source name, the drop down show only the 32 bit ODBC. I would like to use the 64 bit ODBC. Any parameters that I have to switch to get those? Are they only compatible at first? Thanks francois

Hello, Please have a look http://toddmcdermid.blogspot.com/2009/10/quick-reference-ssis-in-32-and-64-bits.html One reason could be that 64 Bit ODBC drivers are not available. Thanks Aamir

HI Aamir, I already read the mcdermid blog. I paid attention to the 64 bit flag and all that. ALL MY ODBC, OLEDB are as far as I am concerned 64 bit. ANd defined and working with Office 64 bit. When I do the pull down do define my data source only the 32 bit get listed. I am not sure which component gets the ODBC list but it is the wrong one. Would it be possible that the .NET Providers\odbc data provider is 32 bit??? maybe but how can I test that or can I upgrade to 64 bit? Maybe just a .NET component that I have to configure?? THanks Francois

When you go to create the new the data source, instead of using the system dsn box, use the second one titled "use connection string" and click the radio button then build. From there you can navigate manually to dsn you setup. That should work fine. Please 'Mark as Answer' if found helpful - Chris@tier-1-support

Thanks Tier 1 but here's the answer... ERROR[IM014][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manger] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application. My educated guess means: I will not be able to connect with a 64-bit ODBC under SSAS, SSIS and SSRS. This is weird. I just do not get it. F.

Are any of these DSN's oracle driver based? Also, list all of the drivers that you can see in your administrator "Data Sources ODBC". Please 'Mark as Answer' if found helpful - Chris@tier-1-support

Bids was developed historcally for 32 bit machines so it just hsows the 32bit drivers, for a system. For developing a SSIS package one has to install the 32 bit drivers on the development machines, howevr if the develoment machine is different from your 64 bit environemnt then you can develop your packages on a 32 bit machine and then it should work fine on the 64 bit environment as on a 64 bit machine you have already stated that you have got the drivers installed Abhinav

Did an additional test. I created a user DSN with my 64 bit odbc driver. BIDS will list only the user DSN and not the System DSN defined in the 64 bit environment. Also, If i define a user DSN like my other System DSN with a 64 bit odbc, I will see it in the BIDS drop down to create a data source but the message of an architecture mismatch comes back. THis was tested with: 64 bit informix ODBC. It seems that the .net provider for odbc is 32 bit.
