Automate adding computer variables
We have a handful of computers used for OSD Task Sequence tesing in the lab only. So we define a bunch of computer variables for different build types for each test computer. The problem is after imaging the computer record would become obsolete so all variables are lost and we have to manually re-create all the same variables again which is pain because sometimes we would reimage the same computer several times a day. I am looking for a way to automate adding the same variables along with values to a new computer record. Anyone has any idea on how to automate this process?

Integrate mdt and store your variables in the mdtdatabase is a good option. Here is a pretty good guide how to implement mdt to your osd: http://verbalprocessor.com/2012/04/11/configuration-manager-and-the-mdt-database-1-of-5/

Hi, You could merge the obsolete records: http://ccmexec.com/2011/03/merging-obsolete-records-in-configuration-manager-2007/ then that wouldn't be a problem anymore. Otherwise you could have a look at the SDK and write a script for it.. Regards, Jrgen-- My System Center blog ccmexec.com -- Twitter @ccmexec

Jrgen Nilsson suggestion is a much easier and faster solution than the one i suggested. But if you have some time over, take a look at mdt integration :-)

Merging the records seem like an easier implementation. I have some questions regarding this solution: So the script should be good as is and no need to change any value to match the site? Will the computer variables be retained after merging obsolete records? How do I verify that the script works after implementing it? Last question is you mentioned that the only downsize to this solution is the advertisement history is kept which is confusing. Is this the history kept in the reporting?

You could also consider using collection variables
