AutoShare registry key itself changes to 0 from 1 in Enterprise Vault server and due to this the backup fails.

Hi,

We have enterprise vault 11 and Backup exec 2014 installed on Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise edtion and Enterprise Vault on 2008 R2 Standard edition  respectively, from past few months the backup fails with the error access denied contacted Symantec for the case now Symantec has asked to look into the O.S level of Enterprise vault server.

The autoshare registry key path in the registry is  (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters) maintains its  value to 1 for three to four days and then it changes itself to 0.

The servers are in live production environment.

Please help and advice.

Thanks and Regards,

Ahmed

Hi Ahmed,

In my Windows 2008 R2 system there is no such a key named AutoShare:

There was a parameter named AutoShareServer, which is for Administrative Share. Please see:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/245117

In current situation, as it is not a default key, please test to delete it and see if it will be recreated automatically.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply it is the parameter named AutoShareServer and I have been reinstating its value to 1 manually as soon as the Administrative share changes to 0. as per the link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/245117. Its a production server so deleting the parameter would be difficult please suggest.

Hi,

Thank you for clarify.

If it is AutoShareServer, is there any third party security application installed? It could be caused by an antivirus application which keeps trying to disable Admin share for safety reason.

Please refer to this article for detailed explanation:

Overview of problems that may occur when administrative shares are missing

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/842715

If it is caused by a security application, you may need to contact the vendor for further suggestion on how to prevent it to disable Admin share.
