Authentication settings for External Web applications
I have a word document that is required for our website. Currently if a user selects the 'Open' option the are presented with Authentication windows. Cancelling these will display the document, but ity is not a good look. Selecting the 'Save' option works fine. I have read a fair bit about this and there are a couple of solutions. I have tried putting the document in a virtual folder within the same site but this doesn't make any difference The one I am interested in trying next is switching off Client Integration. Is this a good way and are there any pitfalls. Does anyone have abetter solution? We are using MOSS 2007

If you turn off client integration, you won't be able to use features like Document Information Panel and automatic checkout. The Authentication issue is usually a client issue. Have the browser trust the site. Have the browser save credentials instead of constantly ask for them. Have the browser auto log in. See if that helps.Brian Bedard, MCTS - pioneeringsharepoint.blogspot.com - Twitter:@tigertoy

Hi, I guess the case which you mentioned is lead to anonymous access. My guess is that by enabling and then removing the anonymous access that permissions changed somewhere. If a domain account is a member of the Portal Server's local Administrators group, the Windows authentication windows does not appear when opening documents. Here is a link about planning Plan authentication settings for Web applications: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288081(office.12).aspx I hope it can help you a little.
