Audit log reports in Sharepoint MOSS 2007
I'm trying to follow these instructions, but there is no Modify All Site Settings button under Site settings. I have full control permission. We have MOSS2007 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/view-audit-log-reports-HA010100005.aspx

You are getting Create > Edit Page > Site settings under Site Action right ? Your site's publishing feature is not activated so you are not getting Modify all site settings option. Go to Site action > Site Settings > Site Administration > Site Features > Office SharePoint Server Publishing and enable it so that you will get Modify all site site settings option. You can also check Site audit log reports without enabling that feature from site settings.Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant |

I enabled publishing, but I still can´t see Site Collection Administration button. Is this perhaps something that the admin has to work with?

Try setting yourself as the Site Administrator for that particular site collection. To do so, open Central Admin --> Application Management. Under SharePoint Site Management, select Site Collection administrators. Once on that page, select the site collection you are trying to access and make yourself either the primary or secondary owner. And now are you able to get Modify all site settings option ? I can see Modify all site settings, but I can´t see Site Collection Administration (and there under Audit log reports) >You can also check Site audit log reports without enabling that feature from site settings. I'm interested in this. How so?

I was suppose to ask you to check it under site action > Site settings > Siet collection administration without enabling Modify all site settings option and for site collection administration you have to follow above procedure or try http://sitename/_layouts/Reporting.aspx?Category=AuditingRegards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant |

You must be a Site Collection Administrator to see this. When you go into Site Settings - look under Users and Permissions (the first column on the far left), do you see a link for Site Collection Administrators? If you don't then you are not a Site Collection Administrator and should find someone who is and have them add you into this group. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your replies. I found audit log reports from my searching of some tracability feature in MOSS 2007. The site usage report doesn´t include nearly enough information on users or documents to be sufficient for tracability on the site. I want some overview of the latest activity on the site. What is the main traceability feature in MOSS 2007, and is it available for Full control users?

Thank you for your replies. If you're looking for something robust you will need it coded or purchased. Try: http://www.avepoint.com/sharepoint-auditing-docave/ or nintex http://lbellows.blogspot.com http://www.ptreviews.net

Ok. Thank you for this. But is the admin the only one who can view the audit log reports? How can I enable Item level auditing? Like this

Ok. Thank you for this. (etc.) I believe that is a 3rd party solution. http://lbellows.blogspot.com http://www.ptreviews.net

yeah, but I'm not speaking about something coded or purchased. Am I correctly understanding that the only one who can view audit reports in MOSS 2007(that has no addons) is the admin and he does it according to: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/view-audit-log-reports-HA010100005.aspx and that you can code, according to these instructions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397403(v=office.12).aspx so that general members can get similar audit reports view for each item/document.

Hi, Yes, only the site administrator can view the audit log report. If you want Item-level Auditing, you should create a custom solution programmatically according this article. Xue-Mei Chang
