Attachments and Append Changes fields
I have a SharePoint list that has a rich text field allowing appending changes and also allowing attachments. When a user opens an attachment to the list item, makes changes, and saves it, the rich text field history adds the previous entry (e.g. "Status Update") again as a new appended change even though nothing new was entered into the rich text field. This is causing the list item to have a long rolling history of the same status update. Does anyone know what might be causing this?Noelle Marchbanks SharePoint Developer and Business Process Analyst Joint Communications Support Element

That is working as designed. The history keeps track of all changes, INCLUDING changes to the attachment. There should be a better way to communicate that the attachment was what was changed, but alas there isn't. So it works as it should, but not as it would be best. I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Thanks for your response. I found a workaround is to actually create a library to hold the documents and just reference the document library instead of attaching them to the item. It's not pretty or the best use of resources, but it works.Noelle Marchbanks SharePoint Developer and Business Process Analyst Joint Communications Support Element
