Assigning Limited Access to an existing list.
I am using Sharepoint 2007. The Sharepoint site has an existing list and I created a second list. The second list allows me to create a new user and assign the "Limited Access" permission level. However, the first list does not offer the "Limited Access" option. I investigated and compared the permission settings and found no differences. I did observe that the list that does not allow the assignment of "Limited Access" does have the standard System Account with "Limited Access" privledges assigned to it. I would appreciate any help in discovering how to make this assignment to an existing list. Thanks.

Limited Access Permissions - View Application Pages, Use Remote Interfaces, Use Client Integration Features – Reference Paul Galvin Limited Access is a special permission level that cannot be assigned to a user or group directly. Limited Permissions exists to provide a library or subsite that has broken permissions inheritance, where you a user/group has been granted access to only that library/subsite, in order to view its contents, the user/group must have some access to the root web. Otherwise the user/group will be unable to browse the library/subsite, even though they have rights there, because there are things in the root web that are needed to render the site or library. Therefore, when you give a group permissions only to a subsite or library that is breaking permissions inheritance, SharePoint will automatically give Limited Access to that group or user on the root web. In SharePoint, anonymous users' rights are determined by the Limited Access permission level.
