Assign a site ID number to a default value in a list.
Hello. When i create a new Project site the template automatically sets up two lists called "mail in" & "mail out" At the moment i then need to go into each of these lists settings and change the "Job Number" default value to whatever the project number is ie the sharepoint assigned ID number... so that when people put new mail in or mail our entrys the "Project Number" field is already populated with the correct number... Is there a way to make sharepoint go fetch this number as soon as the new project is created and poplulate the default project number field each time??? thank you,Andy Walker

Hi, I suggest you to create your own list definition and associate a workflow with it. Via code of workflow you can do this conversion. I hope this will help. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

actually without being rude, no its not really any help. On both occasions i have asked a question you have replied pointing me away to look somewhere else at a general introduction to list definitions or workflows. I know what these things are.... i had already searched for the answer to my questions using google and such like. Unfortunatly i could not find how exactly to use a workflow to populate "default values". So i posted a question here, hoping someone with experience doing this may be able to steer me in the right direction.
