Hi Fairlane32;We already know that we have hundreds of thousands ofsmall businesses, organizations, and individuals such as yourself who are enthusiastic fans of Windows SteadyState.Initially, you were the primary target of this product.However, we are finding more and more large organizations are adopting WSS as well, and the way they use it is sometimes different...This forum was created to give all our users, big and small, a voice; - so please continue to ask questions, request assistance, and tell us what you think. Myself, as well as other Microsoft Engineers are monitoring your posts and will do our best to help you out. Oh my, I didn't realize you guys are listening. I'm very glad. I'm sure then that you have seen other threads/posts on our wish lists for upcoming releases such as remote management/deployment, either from within a domain or a workgroup environment. I, and other posters have voiced requests to allow certain programs to update automatically without having to apply admin privileges such as being touted in the Enterprise edition of Windows 7's AppLocker. Hopefully this will work well. It will extremely help network admins to keep non microsoft programs updated (AV and such, Firefox, Flash, Adobe etc..) and in conjunction with WDP or those using third party vendors such as Faronics Deep Freeze. On a more granular level, eliminating IE's right click all together also prevents the copy and paste context menu from being utilized. Maybe make it more customizable? Most folks don't know the keyboard shortcuts and certain web pages simply don't support the keyboard commands I find. This is a small concern though, I think the networking component is probably more on our short list than anything else, plus the auto update of non MS programs. Would be interesting to see if MS incorporates their Security Essentials into Windows Updates. That would be great, since we wouldn't have to rely on batch files or scripts to work around allowing AV definitions to stick during a maintenance period, if you use SE that is, which I would considering so far how well received it is becoming; and it's free - but I would pay for it if it meant a seamless update with Windows Update. All I would need to do is schedule a Deep Freeze maintenance period and everything would be pulled in. Being IT Manager for a not-for-profit adult education college with 100+ PC's we depended on SteadyState entirely - When i tested the W7 beta with safeguard, it then seemed a good choice to buy and upgrade to Windows 7 Enterprise. Now I wish I hadn't.

We WERE a large user of SteadyState, but since Microsoft chose to not support Windows 7 we had to go with a different product. For the record, it was about 375 machines.

My organization uses WSS for 3700+ systems at 92 locations around the globe. I gained back 100,000 hours a system availabilty using steady state becasue of the quick turn around between users. (Military Traning environment) We will have to research and test and deploy a replacement Bill Ernst PM Distributed Learning System (US Army)
