Are multible sites servers required?
Really? That might be a good solution. Although, I've already got another server configured as an applications server and immediately after adding SCCM I plan to add Forefront EndPoint Protection Server, which is the main reason I have to install SCCM in the first place. Plus, the SQL database is also my SharePoint respository. I'm surprised that with such a small environment that I can't use the Essentials version. --- Breck

I've got a comparatively small environment, 4 sites, with 56, 52, 19, and 8 users. Is it required to have a SCCM in each site? My plan was to set up SCCM on a 2008R2 server with all the roles and a seperate (existing SQL2008) database server at the main site. WSUS server is setup already on a third Role server. --- Breck

From a hardware point, you can install all the roles on a single server (including the WSUS and SQL server). The bandwidth between the main office and thte remote sites might force you to install a Branch DP or a Secondary site server. Check this article for some additional information about secondary sites VS Branch DP's - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693570.aspxKent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

I agree with Kent. If are you running less than 1,000 machines you can put everything, including the database on the same server. Now if already have a database server running you can put the SCCM database on that server. It won't cause any load given that you don't have many clients. I have seen database servers with a 600 client SCCM database on it and it never blinked. http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com

Perfect, the article was exactly what I was looking for. Since we've got a minimum 3Mb MPLS link between sites, I'll start out with the hardware at the main site and see what kind of load it adds. The go to the DP if necessary. That article was the only one I've seen that discussed whether or not it was required. I was thinking along the lines of the DHCP server limitations.--- Breck
