Could Microsoft revise their newsreaders for Windows to provide a few new features to help filter out newsgroups spam? For example: 1. The ability to search the bodies of newsgroups posts for various character strings (usually web sites) in deciding which messages to delete unseen. 2. The ability to filter on what newsgroups provider was used to post the messages, especially Google Groups, since about 99% of the newsgroups spam I see is posted there. 3. The ability to search the Subject: header lines of posts for various graphics characters, since so many of the current newsgroups spammers use them. 4. The ability to check for what character sets were used in the Subject:line, without blindly filtering out all the newsgroups posts that use the character sets frequently used by spammers. 5. The ability, when displaying the headers of a newsgroups post made through Google Groups by the more active spammers who use graphics characters in the Subject: line, to copy and paste the whole set of headers into email to the Google Groups abuse department without the message sent turning off the ability to show ends of lines, as often happens in Windows Mail. 6. More of the Windows Live Mail help file being available without installing that program first, including an estimate of how much the number of files on the hard drive increases if it's allowed to import a Windows Mail database with very large numbers of newsgroups posts, and what to do if the Help button in Windows Live Mail isn't visible. 7. The ability to search for the same newsgroup post downloaded more than once, usually from newsgroups servers that aren't reliable all the time, and decide which duplicate copies to delete. 8. The ability to search for messages that are downloaded but unreadable, usually because the file holding the message has either been deleted or replaced with a zero-length file.
