Anonymous access issue in WSS 3
Hi, I am trying to allow anonymous users to add items to a custom list, but am running into a problem. An unauthenticated user is able to display the form for adding an item, but after clicking ok, they are taken to a login page, and unless there is a successful login, the data is not captured. I have granted the Add Items right under anonymous access for the list. What else am I missing? Thanks, I. Kinal

To add items to a list anonymously you need to edit the anonymous access settings at the site level. You can see there are 2 settings for lists and libraries and entire web. You have to select 'lists and libraries' or users will be limited to read only access. --Cheers

Hi, Thanks for the response! I actually tried both of those options for that setting, but the behavior is identical under either one - it behaves as I described in the above posting. Thanks, I. Kinal

Hi I.Kinal, Thanks for your post. As what Prasath said, you should make the Anonymous user can access to Entire Web Site at first, then add the “Add items” permissions to the Anonymous user. After you finish this step, try to close the IE browser, So that we can avoid the affection of IE Cache. Here is a post about the configuration: http://blogs.devhorizon.com/reza/?p=498 Share your result.

Hi I.Kinal, Glad to receive your reply. Are there some specify columns in the list? Have you try to add “Add Items” permissions to another custom list for the anonymous user? Also, are there some error messages in the ULS log files? Thanks, Wayne TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com

Hi, Can you please clarify what you mean by "specify columns"? I tried replicating this with another test custom list and got the same problem. The log file is not very helpful - it only gives the generic "SPRequest error occurred. More information: 0x80070005" Thanks, I. Kinal

Hi Kinal, In the "Advanced Settings" of the list, for Item-level Permissions-> Edit access either All items or Only their own should be enabled. If it is chosen as None, then you may get this error. Thanks, Chanakya

That did it! It was indeed set to none - I changed it to only their own, and now it is working! Quite unintuitive, but I'm glad it is fixed nonetheless! Thanks! I. Kinal
