Anonymous Access Yet Still Seeing Login Prompt
I enabled Anonymous Access in Central Administration. Then, using Site settings, I applied it to my entire web site.Yet, when browsing my site, the NT login prompt appears asking for login.I checked IIS and Anonymous is enabled for the Sharepoint site. What else do I have to do to get anonymous login?John Bailo

Are there any types of web parts, images, or anything that is pulling pulled into the anonymous page that would require login from another site? For example, if you were attempting to pull in an image off of www.foo.com for an image webpart on anonymous.foo.com, then the page would still work, but there would be a login prompt to access that image. What happens if you cancel the login box? Do you get access denied errors or what?

Hi John, If you have other authentication method senabled in this site, for example Basic Authentication. The prompt for credential will still occur, which is normal. After you cancelled the prompt, are you able to see the web site normally? Please check it and let us know the result. Thanks. Best Regards, Lionel

Lionel,I am not sure what you mean. When I look at Site Settings > Advanced Permissions I see this:http://you-saw-it-here-first.com/v/screenshots/sp_permissions.jpg.htmlSo, the only permission I can set site-wise is Anonymous. Also, it's standardthat if both Anonymous and Windows authentication are enabled, the anonymous method takes precedence.John Bailo

Hello John, I suggested to check the authentication provider for the zone used for the current access. To check the authentication provider information, please use the following steps: 1. From Administrative Tools, open the SharePoint Central Administration Web site application. 2. On the Central Administration home page, click Application Management. 3. On the Application Management page, in the Application Security section, click Authentication providers. 4. On the Authentication Providers page, make sure the Web application that is listed in the Web Application box (under Site Actions) is the one that you want to configure. If the listed Web application is not the one that you want to configure, click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Web Application drop-down list box and select Change Web Application. 5. In the Select Web Application dialog box, click the Web application that you want to configure. 6. On the Authentication Providers page, click the zone of the Web application on which you enabled anonymous access. Please note the following details: 1. Anonymous Access in SharePoint Web site must be enabled in both the authentication provider page describe above and the site/site collection level. If you havent correctly configured Anonymous Access in the zone, please refer to the following article:Configure anonymous access (Office SharePoint Server)http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263363.aspx 2. In the Authentication Provider page described above, please note that if Basic Authentication is also enabled under the Windows Integrated Authentication, if so, the credential prompt is possibly appearing for the user who want to accept basic authentication. (This is want I meant in the previous post). All steps and notes above are to check the Anonymous Access configuration. If they are correct and the issue still persists, please let us know. Thanks. Best Regards, Lionel

I believe I have followed these instructions, but still cannot access the site without seeing the login prompt.A screenshot below shows that Anonymous is checked, and Basic is unchecked.http://www.you-saw-it-here-first.com/v/screenshots/SP-AuthenticationProviders.JPG.html?g2_imageViewsIndex=1Here I show the Anonymous Access Settingsfor my site. This confirms that they are available, and that I have selected Entire Web site.http://www.you-saw-it-here-first.com/v/screenshots/site+-+anonymous+access.JPG.html?g2_imageViewsIndex=1However, I notice that I only have one Authentication Provider, Default. In the link above, it says that I should use Internet (or in my case Intranet) for anonymous access for people within our organization. How do I add an Authentication Provider? Enable anonymous access for a zone Use the following procedures to enable anonymous access for a zone of a Web application. Within each Web application, you can categorize different classes of users into one of the following five zones: Internet is the zone used for customers. Typically, the Internet zone is the only zone you would configure for anonymous access. Intranet is the zone used for internal employees. Default is the zone used for remote employees. Custom is the zone used for administrators. Extranet is the zone used for partners. John Bailo
