An unexpected error has occurred on WordViewer.aspx

Hi,

I just upgraded to SharePoint 2013. When I search and try to open word documents from search result page it doesnt open document in word installed on client but try to open in browser (in WordViewer.aspx) but the WordViewer.aspx gives an exception "An unexpected error has occurred". When looking at the log it says "Application error when access /_layouts/WordViewer.aspx, Error=The file '/_layouts/WordViewer.aspx' does not exist"

How can i fix this. I dont want documents to open in wordviewer

Take a look at deactivating OWA: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh230314.aspx#BKMK_Deactivate

In that case, you will need to set your default to Open in Client instead of in the browser:

Can you confirm through the List/Library settings through the browser that it is set to open in client? Make sure you looking at the list/library settings where your particular file lives.

couple of more things.

try this one to disable the OWA( editing the xml file)

Uninstall or Disable Office Web Apps

if above fixed the issue fine, otherwise close all browser session and tried again or reset IIS on the servers as well.
