Allow non-admin users view site and list settings (delegate control feature?).
I wonder if anyone knows of a way to allow regular users to view settings for sites, lists and document libraries (e.g. versioning, navigation, library template settings) without granting them permissions to change these settings? Why do I need it? This is to allow 1st line support to gather some information and identify possible causes of user issues without having to escalate every call to users with admin or site owner permissions. Scenario A user logs a call saying he's uploaded a document but other users cannot see it. Now, the obvious thing would be to check whether content approval has been enabled on the library in question. However, without the "Manage Lists" permissions a 1st line engineer will not be able to access the lists settings to check this. This makes it very difficult to do any initial troubleshooting unless 1st line support are given higher level privileges. I can delegate control to allow certain users read-only view to specific objects in AD or Exchange - you'd think a similar feature should be available in Sharepoint to allow for easier, more distributed support. However, as objects in Sharepoint are security-trimmed there doesn't seem to be a way to achieve similar level of control delegation or read-only access. I would be grateful if anyone could offer some work-arounds or third-party products that would allow me to "delegate" some initial troubleshooting to non-admin users in the way described above. Thanks in advance, Greg Osimowicz http://sharepointapplied.com/

Hi Greg, the easiest way is to make your site anonymous, so that all users can view it and only authenticated users can modify it as per permission level they have.Warm Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/
