All AD groups not available in SP
I am trying to issue permissions and create audiences around a global security group that I created in AD. Problem is, when I search through the AD picker, I can't find this group that I created. It seems all other groups are available except for the one I created. I cant find any logical reason (through compairsons)as to why I cant pick the group. Come to think of it, I can't find any new groups that I created in AD that were set up after SP 07 was installed. Where could I begin to look for a way to fix this? It looks like a user I created one week ago is available but a security group that I created 2 monthes ago is not available! Weird. Any help is much appriciated

Have you tried doing a full User Profile import?

Thanks, that could be the issue. I think. This is the feedback I get from the user profiles page: Profile import status: Idle - Completed in 0h 0m 2sMembership & BDC import status: Idle - Completed in 0h 0m 0s Import time: Started full import at 12/11/2007 9:02 AM - Ended import at 12/11/2007 9:02 AM We have several hundred items in our AD, it seems to complete rather fast. The final message is: The operation completed successfully. However, I see this in the log: spsimport://water?$$dl$$The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Looks like its telling me up front that all is ok, but the log is saying the other... kind of. Can anyone help me? Direct me to something online that makes this obvious? I have a 93749769 page book on MOSS2007 and its hard to find anything in there. Also, another thought (as I stated earlier) it can retrieve a user that was set uponly afew days ago! Does this mean the crawl is half working? The user and security group are in the exact same OU.

I had the same issue, turned out moss resolved my domain as "department" where the full path is: DC=department,DC=company,DC=com,DC=au. I created a new connection where I put in the name as department.company.com.au instead of just department and it worked..

How did you find out what SharePoint resolved your domain as?

In my case, it was pointing to the right domain, but for the oddest reason new groups that I created were not being imported into MOSS. I had to set the connection to point directly to a Domain Controller instead of the entire domain. Im not sure why there would be a diference but it works for me. Maybe MOSS found and attached toa DC that was having replication errors. Not sure.

It shows up in the custom sources page, if you edit the source it will state the AD name in the second box from the top labeled "Domain Name"
