Hi Arevach, I assume you set these alerts to be sent on any change and immediatly. Check the timer job status Central Admin > Operations. there are jobs called Immediate Alerts. what is their status? these are slow because, well, the timer job is usually busy doing alot of other things. if this is the problem you can speed this up: stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url http://serverName -pn job-immediate-alerts -pv "every 1 minutes" hope this helpsTony Parker, MSCE . I've put together a troubleshooting guide for Alerts. >When they set up an alert themselves My first suspision is a permissions problem, are you using the same list for both teh "Create themselves" and "Create for them" test? Do they have permissions on the list that you are setting them up with Alerts for? Hope it helps your particular question, let me know! http://sharepointalert.info/troubleshooting-sharepoint-alerts/

There might be many reasons for alerts not to work. The things that you need to look into are : Windows SharePoint Services Timer: Go to Services--> Windows SharePoint Services Timer and change the Log On from Local system account to the Farm Admin account that you use. After changing the account make sure you restart the service. Make sure you configure the SMTP on IIS and test if the SMTP service is working properly. Also start the SMTP service in the Services. Check the Outgoing Email settings on the Central Admin. Go to Central Admin ---> Application Mang---> Web Application General Settings and select your web app on the top of the page and make sure the Alerts are on for that web application. Try to check all the above 4 steps and I'm sure it should work. I hope this helps. Let me know if any questions.

Hi Pentalogic, You are right. I built up a custom permission level the same as reader witht the following additions: <label for="idspnidManagePersonalViews">Manage Personal Views - Create, change, and delete personal views of lists. </label> <label for="idspnidAddRemovePersonalWebParts">Add/Remove Personal Web Parts - Add or remove personal Web Parts on a Web Part Page. </label> <label for="idspnidUpdatePersonalWebParts">Update Personal Web Parts - Update Web Parts to display personalized information. </label> Thanks again
