Alert customization
Hi Team, Need help in getting custom information from Alert Description, let me explain brief for better understanding.... Our requirement is to get the Server information from the Alert Description and put it in the alert subject in such away that we can filter if ticket is raised. Since the server name is not listed Event Source or anywhere in the field. It can be found only in the description.Pls help.... Thanks in Advance - Thanks, Varshinie

Hi Varshinie: It's not really possible to rename the alert subject after it's been created. There are of course ways to filter actions based on specific "text in the description field". Check out the Subscription Criteria when creating a notification. Good luck, John Joyner MVP-OpsMgr

Maybe you could use some workaround...like using a command channel notification that will run a PS script that will scan new alerts of a specific kind and get the server name from the description and save it to one of the alert custom fields (1 to 10). After that you'll be able to filter your alerts with CustomFiledX as a criteria. (SCOM console/Alert view/Personalize view/ enable Custom Filed X column).Best regards. Alex

Varshinie, I've just implemented the exact solution you are speaking of. I believe if you read through the below 2 solutions they will point you in the right directions. And just as a side note you can pull information from anywhere with a powerdhell script. It doesnt have to be contained to the operations manager. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/steverac/archive/2010/08/17/updating-custom-alert-fields-using-subscriptions-and-powershell.aspx http://scug.be/blogs/dieter/archive/2011/05/11/scom-setup-command-notification-channel-subscriber.aspx Please let us know how things work out for you.

Hi Just choose the custom fields that are updated with care. E.g. The Exchange MP uses Custom Fields 4 --> 10 and if any script updates these custom fields then it can cause issues with the Exchange 2010 MP getting alerts to resolve. I'll try and get together a list of MPs and the custom fields that they use but it is frustrating that it can impact customisations like the one you are trying to achieve.
