Alert Notification Separation
Hi All, I have a new requirement where I need to configure our SCOM 2007 R2 to send alert notifications to teams irrespective of their technology / application. For example, SQL alerts should be forwarded to SQL Support team. Current set up forwards all alerts to Help desk who distribute them to appropriate team by creating and assigning them tickets manually. Now, my concern is how to forward SCOM alert notifications directly to different technology teams via email. I'm stuck in subscription part while choosing conditions. Please share if you have any reference docs or any blogs where I can get details. Thanks in advance. Regards, -R@j

Hi Raju Create a subscription for e.g Exchange and on the criteria page select the criteria "raised by any instance of a specific class" and choose your Management pack e.g. Exchange, click search and select all classes and click add. Now you are going to be notified if an alert from all those classes raises... Of course as subscriber you would choose the Exchange Team. Regards, StefanBlog: http://blog.scomfaq.ch

I want to share my experience in handling this situation Environment: IT is divided into DB team, server Team, POS Team Requirement: Alerts relate to SQL server is email notified to DB Team. Alerts relate to server issue such as high CPU, memory, insufficiency HD free space is email notified to server team. Alerts relate to POS system is email notified to POS Team. Solution: create three email subscription: subscription1: criteria- alert raise by sql management pack subscription2: criteria - alert raise by Windows management pack subscription3: create a custom management pack which contain monitor/s related to POS system and then set email subscription criteria as alert raise by this custom management pack Roger

Hello, From the previous posts, you have got most of the solution to your question. However, if you want something like SQL owners should only receive SQL related alerts and nothing to do with the Operating System Performance then you need to select the "raised by instance of a specific class" and enter the SQL Management Pack. (of course you will select other criteria too such as raised with specific resolution state severity and so on). However, if you also want to send SQL owners OS performance related issues such as memory cpu disk etc apart from the SQL alerts then I will suggest you to create a SQL group add the servers to this group. When you create a subscription choose the criteria "raised by any instance in a specific group" and enter the name of the group you just created. This will send all the alerts from that group to the server owners. (and ofcourse other criteria to meet your requirements) Also, for subscribers it is best to create a Distribution list in your exchange that will contain all the SQL subscribers email address. This will be easy to manage from SCOM as you want have a lot of subscribers created. Hope this helps! Regards,Abdul Karim. (http://sites.google.com/site/scomblogs Twitter:@Abdul_SCOM)
