Agents with the same name from different untrusted enviroments?
Hi, I wonder if SCOM can handle agents with exactly the same name? For example, we are monitoring multiple web servers. They are in a workgroup that have the name WORKGROUP and the name of the servers is WEB01, both of them. The certificate that we have issued to our webservers (web01 and web01) are issued with the same name "web01". My question is, how will scom handle this? Is this possible? What should i have done different (It is not possible to change the computernames!)?

it wont handle it, the name needs to be unique. However you might be able to give those servers a different fqdn as i believe that's the key property. ofcourse the cert must than match the fqdn as well.Rob Korving http://jama00.wordpress.com/

Hi I agree with the first part of Robs answer - "it wont handle it, the name needs to be unique. ". I think for workgroup names the cert needs to match the netbios - effectively what you see under System > Computer Name in windows. So I'm not sure that there will be a workaround for this. If you can't change the computer names then I don't think you'll be able to monitor both of them with SCOM. Cheers GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hi, You may need to change the agent name. The following thread discussed a similar issue and you will get more explaination there: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagerdeployment/thread/4320b4f3-cfe4-49c8-9826-784b01abbba5/Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
