After installing the WSS 3.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2008, the central adminstration site was gone - now can't uninstall MOSS + WSS
Hi folks. I'm here because I exaustly looked on the internet for a solution and found nothing. Also tried everything I could without success. The problem is this:After installing the WSS 3.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2008, the central adminstration site was gone. Tried everything to get it back up without success. And in fact, in one of the latest steps of the upgrade it failed for a reason I can't remember. The problem is that I'm unable to get this site back on no matter what.Tryed removing the language packs, repaired the installation, everything. And some of my attempts required running the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard. The problem is, that everytime I run it, no matter the previous actions, it keeps trying to recover from the SP2 upgrade I did in the first place. Which allways fail. It throws an exception on step 2 of 9: Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeException.In the log the message comes right after: Entering function PsconfigLabel.CommonStuff04/30/2009 16:49:57 1 INF Created a label, name is FinishForm, text is ->> "An exception..."Anyways. I figured what the heck, I will need to uninstall it and install it again. But the thing is, that it won't uninstall! It's driving me crazy.I have 3 items in the uninstall:- Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007- Microsoft Office Server 2007 Language pack - Portuguese/Portugus (Brasil)- Microsoft Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0When I try to uninstall the language pack, it says it doesn't exist and fails. Now, for both Sharepoint Server and Sharepoint Services, the uninstall window simply closes with no error messages or anything, it simply goes "puff".Again, tried to repair, wich didn't really change anything same problems, same errors, same thing on configuration wizard.I'm going crazy here, so if any of you guys can help me out of this situation I would appreciate it. If you can just help me uninstall WSS (so I can install it again and repair the broken things) it would already be something.ThanksRegards,Fbio "To alcohol! Why don't you go back to the Backup you took before you did the WSS SP2 upgrade instead of trying to sort out the situation after the upgrade ?WSS FAQ sites: WSS 2.0: http://wssv2faq.mindsharp.com WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007: http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com Total list of WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 Books (including foreign language titles) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/Lists/v3%20WSS%20FAQ/V%20Books.aspx

If you don't have a backup then you might have to rebuild the farm - your content databases "may" still be good so you shouldn't lose anything other than configurations. Can you provide more details about the specific exceptions that you are receiving? Is there anything in the event log or ULS logs? Is the Central Admin site really gone or just not accessible (check IIS)?Gary Lapointe, Blog: http://stsadm.blogspot.com/, Twitter: http://twitter.com/glapointe

I don't remember now. But it was a command line tool. When I get to work, I will take a look and see what I can get. While that try to google on how to extract that kind of file type. Regards, Fabio"To alcohol! The cause of and solution to all of life's problems." - Homer Simpson
