Aero Disabled after OSD - ATI Radeon HD Graphics Cards on Dell Optiplex
We have any issue at present with our latest Windows 7 build whereby after the completion of the OSD aero is disabled on the desktop. This appears to have started happening after we added a new display driver to SCCM for a range of ATI Radeon HD graphics cards that are installed in our Optiplex 755 and Optiplex 960 desktops. The driver in question is version 8.701 and applies to the following cards: ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT ATI Radeon HD 3450 ATI Radeon HD 3470 I have tried to disable the driver and also remove it from SCCM but the driver version 8.701 is still picked up after OSD. To manually fix the display we have been uninstalling the driver and either letting windows automatically re-detect the driver or reinstalling the same version and rebooting before Aero then becomes enabled. Has anyone came accross a similar issue or is there a way to force an older driver to get installed during OSD to see if the issue goes away? I'm not sure where its picking up the 8.701 driver from now as the one in the underlying wim is older and I've removed all traces of it from SCCM. The following post talks about setting the theme during OSD to enable Aero but we have never had to do this for previous builds, Aero has just always been enabled as default. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/configmgrosd/thread/95145ca0-9ed6-40af-bc0b-465014efd56b. I can try setting the theme through Group Policy but again we've never had to do this in the past so I'd like to know what might be causing this issue. The only other things that have changed are the addition of the latest Windows updates in the wim file (none of which relate to the display driver) and a few of the packages in the task sequence have been updated again none which relate to display.

Are you setting the wallpapper in your reference capture at all or during deploy? I have not seen this as of yet... If you do suspect it to be a driver issue i would raise this as an issue on the delltechcenter.com you will usually get a speedy response. No we set the wallpaper through Group Policy, although we do have a hotfix that gets applied to the wim file to fix an issue we had with wallpaper KB977944 but this was on the old wim file so I dont think its connected. I'll try logging something on the Dell tech center, thanks.
