Admin Res Kit Maintenance Mode Tool - Job: Updates - JobName Status: Job Scheduled due to missed start time
I have a daily maintenance window set up for a distributed application using the new Maintenance Mode tool Microsoft released. The organization has been receiving alerts for down services every night due to the fact the servers aren't being placed in MM. In the SCOM console under the new Maintenance Mode event view I am seeing: Job: Updates - JobName Status: Job Scheduled due to missed start time. Any ideas as to why the start time is missed and the application and its objects are never placed into maintenance mode? Please tell me it's something I missed vs. just a poorly written tool.

A little additional info, I also enabled verbose logging and reviewed the log for the specific MM job and here's what I received. 2011-08-24 06:00:59,Error,Main:Scheduled,Job: JobName: Job needs to be marked complete so it gets rescheduled. For some reason the job did not get scheduled on time. This could be due to a SDK failure like the mg being unavailable. 2011-08-24 06:00:59,Info,Main:Scheduled,Job: JobName: Update Job Status to Completed. 2011-08-24 06:00:59,Info,Job:UpdateJob,Querying for Update Job class data... 2011-08-24 06:01:17,Info,Job:UpdateJob,Job : JobName has been updated. 2011-08-24 06:01:17,Error,LogEvent,Event added to Eventlog: Job: JobName Status: Job Scheduled due to missed start time

I guess I will open a MSFT support case to see if they have an idea.

Hi Jon, have you opened a case for this? Not sure why this would have happened.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient

Hi Jon, have you opened a case for this? Not sure why this would have happened. Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient I have an open case for it. However the admin resource kit isn't officially supported. So the gentleman assisting me told me it's best effort. Combing through the environment nothing stood out to him and so there was no resolution offered. During the time the case was opened I made two slight changes one or both of which have possibly positively impacted the situation. First I sealed some custom MPs that were written and being targeted by the MM tool. Second I set the start time back 10 minutes because I didn't want to begin during the witching hour :) At this point it is working (production implementation) so I don't want to rollback for confirmation.

Alright, than I am going to mark your answer as answer as this seems to be the closest we are going to get until now.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient
