Add attachment icon to custom list display form
I have a requirement to add a clickable icon on a custom display form of a list. I am not sure how easy this would be. Can I do it to make the icon of the specific doc type appear or do I need to just add a blank doc or paper clip. what do I add to accomplish this

Hi David,

Why do you want to add an attachment icon in item display form?

When you want to upload an attachment to an item, youd better edit the item and then upload the attachment.

To add a custom action to the Display form for list items, you can refer to the link below:

I second Victoria. Also, attachment can be added as mandatory item in the list and same can be ddisplayed while adding new item in the list using Infopath forms. Thanks

I am trying to give users the same visual experience in the list for as they would have in the document library.  I am not sure how to accommodate what you are suggesting. I am not sure this need to be a custom action.  I am not looking to override the ribbon. I wouldn't think I would have to go to the trouble of using a custom action.  In a Doc library view you have the icon in front of the doc.

As you can see I am listing the attachments that are associated with the item.  I just want to have the pdf icon or a paper clip icon in front of each attachment. Thanks

Hi David,

By default, there is a paper clip icon displayed for the attachment field in list view if the item has an attachment.

If this is what you want, please click Modify View button in the ribbon to modify the list view and then make sure that the Attachment is selected under Columns.
