Add Costom Field to Monitor
Hello All When creating a Rule you have the open to specify items you want to appear in Custom Fields 1 to 10. For example you can set Customer fields 3 to text XZY therefore every time the Rule is tried XZY is written to Custom Field 3 for the alert triggered by the Rule. The above is very useful when creating Notifications as you can state send email for Ernie@domain.com when any alert comes in where custom fields contains XYZ. I do not see this option when creating Monitors, of there a reason they did not include this option in Monitors. It would be very useful, is there any way to add this retrospectively, event to a hidden fields to fields, so I can use them in Notifications as I do with Rules Any ideas? Thanks All Ernie

Hi You can add retrospetively using PowerShell: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/steverac/archive/2010/08/17/updating-custom-alert-fields-using-subscriptions-and-powershell.aspx Be aware of potential performance problems though - it depends how many alerts need updating and the how loaded the RMS is. Hi, be aware of another thing: $alert.Update("") method will re-send alert through the notification channel(s).http://OpsMgr.ru/

Thanks all for the information, it would be nice if MS gave you the option of populating Custom Fields in both Rule and Monitors (instead of just Rules). Perhaps they will on the next release Thanks again Ernie

Hi I doubt this will change - I had an enhancement request to expose custom fields for overrides so that they could be used in sealed rules without having to use retrospective scripting but this has been turned down. I'll close the thread for the moment as I think we've answered your question but please feel free to re-open if you have any further questions.
