ActiveSync minimum search character GAL lookup

Hi, we have a business requirement to change the minimum number of characters from 4 to 3 (or even 2) when searching GAL from ActiveSync devices.

I understand how to do this, but I know this limit was put in place to prevent overloading on Exchange so I want to validate that this change will not degrade Exchange performance. We have a 760 mailbox environment so I would imagine there wouldn't be too many GAL lookups performed throughout the day but I need to qualify this assumption.

Is there a way to do this? I can search how many ActiveSync devices there are, but this does not tell me what they are doing. Is there any event log entries when a GAL search is performed on the CAS server? I couldn't see anything when browsing through the event log, perhaps something in IIS that could

What I did was to lower the number by 1 each day and monitor the performance impact. With 700 Exchange objects we didn't notice any difference.
