Accessing SharePoint 2013 external lists using PowerShell

Hi

I am trying to read data from an external list using PowerShell.

I am using SharePoint 2013 SP1 May 2015 CU on-premise.

when I try and access the list using PowerShell I get an error "Get ItemById with 1 arguments: "Attempted to perform an unauthorised operation"

I can browse to the list and display the list items no problem.

In the ULS log there was the error message :- External List: User passes list permissions check, but an unsupported authentication configuration was identified. Operation disallowed.

I have researched this and nobody seems to have come up with a solution.  There are lots of people hypothesizing what the problem could be but no one actually stating what the definitive solution is.

I am using BDC Metaman by LightningTools to create the content type and then creating the external list from the browser.

Thanking you in advance

Hi Nigel,

According to your post its related to security issue. You may have to use windows impersonation or the custom one.

Please refer the below thread which they have discussed.
