Access to only one folder among 10 folder on home page of report server

Hi,

I want to give the permission to a user to view only one folder among 10 folders on Home page. I don't want that user to view other folder than his/Her Own folder on report server home page.

I went through the below URL but it didn't help.

Thanks,

Hi Ashu,

It's normally easiest to assign permissions at the folder level.  Since permissions inherit by default, using separate folders would allow you to add more reports later, and permissions would be assigned, just by putting them in the right folder.

That being said, assigning permissions for Folders and Reports works the same way.

1. Open the Folder or Report.

2. Go to the Properties Tab.

3. Click Security on the Left Menu.

4. Click "New Role Assignment" (If Permissions are still being inherited, you will need to click "Edit Item Security" first.)

5. Enter the User Name and put them in the Browser Role.

Note: Both users will also need to have Browse Level permissions on the Root Directory, or they won't be able to see the folders that they have permissions on.  In my environment, pretty much all Domain Users have Browse Access on the root directory, but only Folders and Reports that they can use, show up.

Note : If the user is a Local Administrator on the SSRS server.  By default they will be able to see everything.

Hi Milan,

Thanks for the reply, but using this way I can view all the folders though we can not access the folder.

I need a way out using which only that folder would be visible with which that person is associated too, rest all other folders on Home page should be invisible.

Let me know if you have any idea about this.

Thanks,

On each folder the user is not to have access to you need to break the inheritance of permissions from the parent folder (i.e., the home folder) and remove them.  This would be done through folder security on each folder and editing the security.  Here are a couple of links to help...

Hi Ashish,

According to your description, when user access the report manager, you want the user only can see and access the specific folder in home page, and other folders are hidden, right?

Based on our test, you can grant a system level role for the user in Site Settings. Then grant the user item level role (Browser) in Folder Settings. Then open Security page for the specific folder, create a new role(Browser) for the specific user. In this way, when user access the report manager, he can only see and access the specific folder.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

Hi Ashish,

1. Grant a system level role for the user in Site Settings

2. Grant the user item level role (Browser) in Folder Settings

3. Open Security page for the specific folder, create a new role(Browser) for the specific user

Ashish,

On the folder you granting the user permissions to, select "New Role Assignment", then select "Browser".  This gives them view only.  You don't need to create a a new role but simply grant access through a role, that being "Browser".

Hi Jjordheim

I want to give access to the user on the home page where I want to show him only the required report and if I will allow user to "browser" access then he will not able to login on home page. he has to nevigate to that particular URL which include the folder itself.

Thanks,
