Access Team Site over Internet
I have created a team site that I need the members to be able to access from anywhere. Currently, I can set everything up frine and access it perfectly fine, I am behind company firewalls right now. However, another team member is away on business and cannot access the team site but can access the main sharepoint site and login info. How can we fix this? They can access it internally from http://companyslogan.company.com/ When i look at the team site when I am here behind the firewalls it routs to some http://letters:numbers/ (i.e http://abcdef:1234/personal/user/teamsitename and this is the only part of sharepoint that my team is having trouble accessing? Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

The secret is in the URL... note the part .../personal/user... That tells me you probably created the site off of your My Site. That's not advised because My Sites are usually not exposed externally. You can still make it visible for them if you expose your My Sites externally, but you'll need to add some AAM mappings to get it done. Start here: http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2007/03/06/what-every-sharepoint-administrator-needs-to-know-about-alternate-access-mappings-part-1.aspx I trust that answers your question...ThanksChttp://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Is there a way for it to be changed by the user? Or does a tech have to make the changes on the server side? Also, can a user setup a team site not via my site but accessible over the internet? Thanks!

Hi, I agree with Cornelius and the link above is a good place to start. You have to configure AAM on the server side. As a SharePoint admin, you can create a team site under another web application and configure AAM for that web application. Thanks & Regards.Lily Wu

Thanks! Yes there are about 10 sites and their subsites that are accessible from the mainpage which is where we will open the new team site and then limit the access...seems easier than starting new aam for the my sites!
