Absolute maximum accepted length of User-Agent String (and can it be adjusted)
We recently updated some third-party software on a large number of workstations and after the update users are now getting an "Unsupported Browser" message from the SharePoint system. Inspection of the User-Agent string shows that with all the other Microsoft entries and the entry for the third-party software, the User-Agent string is now some 283 characters in length. Is there a maximum length for the User-Agent string and is it adjustable ? Ideally, we would love to know of a registry entry we could change to make the system accept say 300 to 400 character User-Agent strings. We have confirmed that reducing the string length fixes the issue but that is going to cause a great deal of work. The HTTP RFC does not appear to put a limit on the User-Agent length. Thanks for any advice.
