APC Alerts
Hello, I just recently installed SCOM 2007 R2 and it is monitoring some servers on the nework. I also want it to monitor my APC when we have power failures. I want SCOM to alert me when the APC kicks in during a power failure. How would I set this up? Thanks

Depends on the APC. You could look for the power failure events in the windows logs (not sure of details, but they do happen). If your APC is networked or cabled (signalling cables) separately, there may be more downloadable management pack content from your APC vendor.Microsoft Corporation

If I look up the power failure events in the windows logs, how would I tell SCOM to alert me then? What steps would I have to do in SCOM for it to alert me? I really appreciate the help. Thanks

Hi Soccer, You would set up a Monitor for the Windows Event....It's under the Authoring tab APC do have a Management Pack, but it is way too old to risk in a new R2 environment. It was made pre-2008 days and they don't seem to really care about SCOM, since they want to sell you their own monitoring solution for the hardware. John Bradshaw

John Bradshaw Bradje, I decided to do a SNMP trap instead. I am now able to discover my APC using the network device discovery. Then I created a new unit monitor but when the "build First Expression" box pops up, I am a bit confused in what I should type here. Could you please tell me, how I should configure this so that it alerts me when my APC kicks in when there is a power failure. I am pretty new to this so I really appreciate the help. Thanks
