Hello,

this is an overview about AD DS: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731053(WS.10).aspx

This is a sticky note about how to ask questions: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/thread/82656aab-5222-4f4e-ad82-401e0633ba7a

Hello,

there is no standard question.

If it is about administration then it should be about:

  • User accounts management
  • Computer accounts management
  • Group policy management
  • ....

If it is about troubleshooting then it should be about:

  • Troubleshooting AD replication problems
  • How to do if FSMO holders are down
  • ....

As you have done your MCSE course then what you need is AD DS new featues: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755093(WS.10).aspx

I wouldn't focus on AD as it's a pretty basic system assuming replication is working. If anything read up on that but it is rare you will need it.

I suggest you focus on Group Policy as that is where you will be doing most of your work in L2/L3 support.

To clear any interview you need to stick with the basics. L2 and L3 levels there is more scenarios based question not direct questions.

In addition to above suggestions, you should concentrate not only on active directory;  the applications, technologies which depends on AD such as SCOM, SCCM, Exchange, Share Point, OCS, DFS, DHCP etc...

for example, ask which FSMO roles exist within any AD forest/domain and what their purpose is: http://jorgequestforknowledge.wordpress.com/2011/07/11/the-impact-of-fsmo-roles-not-being-available/   Then ask the components that would be described in an AD design or in other words how would the Table Of Contents of the AD design look like.

I have personally sat on interview panels with regard to positions for AD related Administration.  Of course, the questions would depend on the job duties since they may vary, but I would recommend that you focus on the key AD related concepts such as:

The logical structure and objects found in AD (sites, services, OUs, computers, users, etc...), types of Name resolution that occurs on a network (DNS, NetBIOS), IP managment (static and DHCP).

You may want to try to find out what other networking services this company has in place...  Messaging, Remote Access, Antivirus, Firewall, Proxy, etc...

When you respond to the technical questions, I would recommend that you try to include an example of your experience.  For example, If the question is about designing AD, answer the question technically, but also give an example of when you were last involved in designing an AD forest.
