AD Integration auto agent deployment
Hi, I'm thinking about setting up AD integration but don't want clients to be automatically managed (as any new servers in AD don't necessarily need to be monitored straight away). When AD integration is enabled, do clients automatically start to be monitored or will they appear in pending management until an operator accepts them (which is how we have it setup currently)? We don't have a test AD environment so I haven't been able to test myself. Thanks in advance, Ross

Yes, and Yes, and Maybe. When you create a new server, it will not automatically get an OM agent installed - you have to make that happen. This is when AD-integration kicks in. If you have it enabled, and install silently with the right command line options, when the health service starts up, it will interrogate AD. If it finds a management group it will connnect to it. This is where your management group agent management settings come in. If you have it set to default, the agent will be rejected, but continue to try whenever it is restarted. If you have it set to approval required, it will show up in pending management. If you have it set to automatic accept, it will become part of the management group and start being monitored assuming you have the relevant MP's for the workload that the server is performing.Microsoft Corporation

In addition to what Dan says, I want to draw your attention to some other considerations if you're planning to use AD Integration. http://blogs.technet.com/b/jonathanalmquist/archive/2010/06/14/ad-integration-considerations.aspx Might save you some headaches in the future.HTH, Jonathan Almquist - MSFT
