ADRMS Protected Contents takes atleast 3 minutes to open

I set a lab of ADRMS based on Windows Server 2008 R2. ADRMS Protected Contents takes atleast 3 minutes to open in office 2010. Is it normal?

I installed wireshark and identify the issue. MS Office was trying to contact crl.microsoft.com several times before opening a doc. However there was no response as the lab was in a close environment (no internet connection).

To resolve the issue, I defined a GPO to  Change Timeout on Certification Path Validation Settings:

Log on to the DC.corp.fabrikam.com Server as Administrator.

  • Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and click Group Policy Management.

  • Expand Forest: xxx.com, expand Domains, expand xxx.com, right-click Default Domain Policy, and then select edit. This will bring up the Group Policy Management Editor.

  • On the left, expand Computer Configuration, expand Windows Settings, expand Security Settings, and click Public Key Policies.

  • On the right, right-click Certificate Path Validation Settings and click Properties. This will bring up the Certificate Path Validation Settings Properties.

  • On the Certificate Path Validation Settings screen, click the Network Retrieval tab.

  • On the Network Retrieval screen, place a check in Define these policy settings and in the middle, change Default path validation cumulative retrieval timeout (in seconds) to 2.

  • Click Apply and Ok. This will close the Certificate Path Validation Settings.

  • Close Group Policy Management.
