ADM Template allows only 2 character Site Code
I am creating a group policy to deploy the SCCM Client (link), and I am using the ADM template's pulled off the SCCM 2007 SP2 DVD to define the site code. However, when I try to specify the Site Code I am only able to enter two characters.I am using SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 and am creating the policy using the Group Policy Editor from a Windows Server 2008 SP2 machine (NOT R2). I've tried from the SCCM server and from a domain controller (both 2008) but have the same problem. I opened the ADM file in notepad and can see where the site code field is limited to 3 characters, so it _should_ work... What I ended up doing was changed it to allow 4 characters, and now I can type three but not 4...? PART !!AssignedSite EDITTEXT VALUENAME "GPRequestedSiteAssignmentCode" MAXLEN 4 END PARTAny ideas why this is happening and if my changes are a bad idea?

Hi, Even you have extended the AD schema, you can always use the ADM template to install client via GPO, you must use the correct parameters of the ccmsetup.exe ... See "How to Assign the Configuration Manager Clients to a site" in this link : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633010.aspx Also, you can use other method to install the sccm client : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632762.aspx Thanks.Bechir Gharbi. Hey MrShannon, I know this thread is now a few months old however did you ever find the answer to your original question of why the ConfigMgr ADM template will only allow 2 characters in the Assigned Site field where we need to enter a 3 character site code? I just loaded up the templates and found the same issue myself. I know i can extend the schema and i may do that, but not until i get the GPO assignment using the ConfigMgr ADM working how it is supposed to :) Thanks Chris

I did not hear anything further on this issue. I just edited the ADM file to allow 4 characters which effectively gave me three in the UI. It's a cheap hack but did the trick. I think in the end extending the schema was the real approach since you want that eventually anyway.MrShannon | TechNuggets Blog | Concurrency Blogs

I have the same issue with editing the GPO using Group Policy Management console on Windows Server 2008 SP2. When you try to specify the site code, only 2 characters appears. Switched to Group Policy Management console on Win 2008 R2 and Win 2003 Server I am able to key in 3 characters for Site Code again. Weird? Now i know it's not only happens to me.---Packie

Are you editing the GPO using Group Policy Management on Win 2008 Server SP2 ? Try another GPM console on another version of Windows server (2003/2008 R2), you'll be able to enter 3 characters code.---Packie
