404 not found on sharepoint 2007
hello, ive exported my site to sharepoint 2007 by using the STSADM export files, all the data is working fine except for some sites which are giving the 404 error, i opened the site with SPD the sites are there but when u click them using the browser the 404 error is shown...the site also crashes randomly the whole site, it was working fine but it has crashed only the default.aspx is working all other pages are not...any ideas ? thanks

Use Fiddler2 (www.fiddler.com) to check that the URLs being directed to are correct. Fiddler will report the HTTP traffic for you which could help identify what's wrong.I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Hi, This could be a limitation of stsadm -o import/export, which described in http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_gossner/archive/2009/05/27/limitations-of-stsadm-o-export-import-related-to-publishing-sites.aspx Need to check whether the URL of the site is a top level site or managed path. 1. If it is a top level site, we need to create another site collection with the same template as site, then export and import the top level . 2. If it is a managed path, we need to create the same managed path in the destination farm. And then import/export the top level site, then import and export the sub site. Hope it helps.Xue-Mei Chang

Hi, thanks for the replies. actually fiddler helped me i had invalid URLs in my site so that was the problem that it was not able to reference the related pages, ive fixed that now every link is working fine. thanks.
