2 FIM Sync Server databases on SQL cluster
Hi, We have deployed a FIM Sync server with the default database on a SQL cluster. We now would like to deploy a separate FIM Sync Server for the live@edu integration (I know its not officially supported, but local MS has said we can go ahead). How do we install this new FIM Sync Server to use the same SQL cluster - we have to provide it a new database name, but there is nothing in the installaiton GUI for that. thanks

I dont know whether this is supported but it works at least 1. Install first FIM Sync on DB 2. Stop FIM Sync Service after installation has finished 3. Change Database name on SQL server and in the registry on the server where you installed FIM Sync 4. Change MDF and LDF files (this will be checked during installation) on SQL Installation of second FIM Sync on same cluster/instance should run successfully now. If you run in prod with those servers I would vote to seperate into two instances and install it separately. Cheers, Moritz

OK, I hear you...so I could have a single SQL cluster, and run 2 instances; and have each FIM Sync db on a separate instance? Are there any potential complications in running 2 SQL instances on a single cluster? thanks

Seperate SQL Instances should not be a problem.. and that would be my rcommendation instead of changing the db name.Joe Stepongzi - Identity Management Consultant ilmXframework.codeplex.com
