2012 Essential R2 Backup unsuccessfull with error code 2147942634
Hi, a planned backup on win srv 2012 essentials R2 terminates unsuccessful with error code 2147942634 and the text "more data is abailable" when beginning backup with the EFI start partition. The other, usually follwing backup-locations, do not start backup thereafter. Every 2nd backup seems to be affeted. Manually started backups work fine. Mike.

Hi,

Do you mean that the backup works fine if you click Backup Once, but there is an error code 2147942634 when run scheduled backups? Is there any error message in the Event Log?

You could refer to the article below to troubleshoot the issue:

Hi Mandy,

some more monitoring gets these additional info:

- no, it's not a question about "backup once" or scheduled. Every second scheduled backups does not run (backup schedule ist daily 12:00 and 23:00. 12:00 backups are fine, 23:00 backups fail)

- the recommended article provides no help, but checking the event viewer windows aplication points to error ID 517:

- details to this error ID 517:

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System>   <Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Backup" Guid="{1DB28F2E-8F80-4027-8C5A-A11F7F10F62D}" />   <EventID>517</EventID>   <Version>1</Version>   <Level>2</Level>   <Task>0</Task>   <Opcode>0</Opcode>   <Keywords>0x8000000000000000</Keywords>   <TimeCreated SystemTime="2015-03-02T22:02:44.547827700Z" />   <EventRecordID>135619</EventRecordID>   <Correlation />   <Execution ProcessID="4648" ThreadID="11988" />   <Channel>Application</Channel>   <Computer>S12ER.SV.local</Computer>   <Security UserID="S-1-5-18" />   </System> - <EventData>   <Data Name="BackupTime">2015-03-02T22:00:19.562212400Z</Data>   <Data Name="ErrorCode">0x800700ea</Data>   <Data Name="ErrorMessage">%%2147942634</Data>   </EventData>

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the delay.

It seems that you specify the schedule backup Twice a day (recommended). The issue could be due to there is a corrupted backup schedule entry. You could try to disable the first backup to see what events would occur if the 23:00 backups run alone. If you can run the backup successful, then add the first 12:00 backups.

Hi Mandy

in the meantime we added a 3rd scheduled backup. Now the 23:00 backups works, but still: every 2nd backup does not work. If the 23:00 backup is a second backup, it will not run.

Do you think, a corrupted backup schedule entry may cause this noteworthy behavior?

Hi Mike,

According to your description, the issue could not be caused by a corrupted backup schedule entry. Please check if there is enough shadow copy storage space available on the backup dirve.

You could try to create a scheduler backp to backup a small folder to check if the issue still exists.

Hi Mandy,

the backup drive check shows no Problems, and 1.6 of 2.7 GB drive space are free.

I don't want to start a new scheduled backup on this machine (it's a productive system). As far as I know, it is not possible to have more than 1 scheduled backups on the same machine.

We added a manual backup with a small folder to back up. That worked fine and had no impact to the scheduled backups and theier issues:

see backup to F: at 21:18

it`s still every 2nd backup, that fails. Any suggestions? Error Code is still 2147942634

What we found out so far: using another backup drive finally stops the issue.

By the way: use VSS full (if you dont have other backup software), because that really reduces backup time.
