2008 R2 VM moved to 2012 R2 host now uses offline backup
I'm moving VMs from a 2008 R2 host to a 2012 R2 cluster.  2008 R2 guests seem to be backed up offline.  New 2012 R2 guests work online.  I've checked requirements list for online backups as well as made sure that Windows Backup feature is installed, most current integration services, SCSI driver installed.  What else can I

I'm not having a problem migrating the VMs.  I'm having a problem with them doing offline backups.  Or do you think that doing a move incorrectly could cause the offline backups?

Hi Joseph,

Have you made sure that the Backup-feature is enabled in the intergrationfeatures of the 2008 R2 VMs?

Also, is there a SCSI-controller attached to the VMs? (Might be what you are referring to as "SCSI driver installed".)

Hi,

there are a lot of reasons for offline backup.

In Your Case i think your are using a old Version of Integration Services in der 2008 R2 VM's

so please update IS, remove VM Backup from DPM and add backup again.

I already had the Integration Services updated.  So that was not the issue.  Your link did help me with a few VMs in which the Hyper-V Services were not running, but many still are not working.
