0x8007007B While Activating Windows

I am using Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview, and I would like to update to the release of Windows 10 Pro. However, in Windows Update it says that it is up to date. What can I do to get the update?

UPDATE: I installed Windows 10 Build 10162, but now when I try to activate it I get this error: 0x8007007B.

Xce,

If you are a registered Insider, then please logon system using your registered Microsoft Account, then on the advanced options under Windows Update, make sure we have swithced to the fast ring and ready for the new builds. Then check for updates again.

If we have already done the steps above, then please check Windows Update and see if any errors reported.

Besides, we may try the method below and see if it could help:

1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch, hopefully without flaws this time.

Hi Xce,

As Michael said, firstly please check if you have upgraded to the latest build 10240.

If so, in fact, the build version of Windows 10 RTM is 10240. So if you have upgraded to build 10240, you have been the RTM build. What's more, please refer to the result of "Winver" in my Windows 10 RTM which is upgraded from Windows 8.1:

Thanks for your help Michael and Lany, but today as soon as I clicked check for updates, it found the update! I remember checking my disk for any corrupt files, but that didn't seem to fix anything. I guess there was too much traffic.

Turns out that even though I find the update I still get an error. I got this:

Error 0x80240017

What  should I do?

July 30th, 2015 2:35pm

Xce,

What is your current situation?

The mentioned error is related to the downloading process.

The workaround that may help is to rebuild the software Distribution folder:

Open CMD with admin rights, then type:

net stop wuauserv (Press enter)

rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old (Press enter)

net start wuauserv(Press enter)

Exit cmd.

Then check for updates again.

Thank you, that seemed to have got rid of that error, but now during the installation process, near the end, it stops and reverts to the original build. When I try to install it again, it downloads everything again.
July 31st, 2015 2:02pm

I redid the installation process and it restores my previous version of Windows when it reaches 93% and 67% for configuring my settings.

When I log back in, I am greeted with this error message:

0x8007002C - 0x4000D

The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during the MIGRATE_DATA operation.

Hi Xce,

Apologize for the late reply.

It seems to be that the data migration is not in a good process.

Please check to see if we installed any 3rd party anti-virus, if yes, please uninstall it, then perform a chkdsk comamnd to determine if any the disk errors, after that, run the upgrade again.

Thank you for  reply Michael, but should I run chkdsk /r /f or cdhkdsk /r or chkdsk /f. Also, just to let you know, dism /cleanup-image /scanhealth and /checkhelath does not find any component store corruption, but sfc /scannow finds corruption that it cannot fix even in safe mode.

Did you run DISM to fix the errors?  Instructions for which are at the end of this wiki

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM (if necessary) if you are on win 8 or higher
All instructions are in our Wiki article below...
Should you have any questions please ask us.

Thanks for your reply ZigZag.

I have already run DISM, which it says have fixed all component corruption. When I ran SFC, it says that it could not fix all the corruption.

Hi Xce,

What is your current situation?

Run the chkdsk /r is enough.

If it still fails to upgrade, then please consider to download the Windows 10 media and do an upgrade install from there.

My current situation is that DISM does not detect and component store corruption, SFC cannot fix some corruption, and that I used a mounted iso that I got from the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Also, regarding the chkdsk, it is still running. I will tell you what happens after it is done.

I think  chkdsk  finished, but it went from around 37% to restart to 100%. So does that mean that I should try updating again?

Ok and thanks for the update.

Please check for the updates of your hardware driver, specially for the BIOS,  further, Run the dism command to make sure there is no issues and remove all the USB devices, if any 3rd-party anti-virus installed, uninstall them temporarily, before you start the upgrade again.

Then Boot into clean boot and start the upgrade from there.

If it still fails, please find us the setupact.log under the following path:

Upload it into OneDrive and then post the shared link here.

Thanks for replying Michael Shao, but I decided to reset my pc as most of my important files were stored in different drives. I hope that might help.

This product key didn't work. (Error code: 0xC004C003)

You might also see this error if you're using an invalid product key. You'll need to buy a new product key, or if you bought a PC with Windows preinstalled, contact the PC manufacturer for the original key.

I built my PC so it didn't come preinstalled with any OS. But I installed Windows 10 as an insider for the Insider Preview but updated using the Media Creation Tool. Is it asking for the Product Key because I'm out of the insider program?

Hi Xce,

The error has been told to be related with the activating server, due to lots of activating request.

Wait for 24 hours and check if the error insists, or we may call Microsoft license support regarding activation.

Hi Xce,

Apologize for the late reply.

What is your current situation?

Error code 0x8007007B seems to be related with KMS activation.

Quoted from here :

You might see this error if you're trying to activate your work PC but aren't connected to your workplace's network.  If you're connected to your work network and still see this error, you might need to change your network settings.  Contact your organization's support person for more info.

For Internet connection issues, check the article below:

Windows 10 : Connectivity

Run the Network troubleshooter first.

If not work, try to re-scan your network Adapter.
