/EnableWDPAndReboot First use Bug?
Has anyone experience a problem using "C:\Program Files\Windows SteadyState\SCTUI.exe" /EnableWDPAndReboot" on a brand new XP SP3 install? ====================================================== 10 out of 10 new (Dell optiplex 745 & 755) machines would NOT enable WDP and would furthermore permanently *break* this option when done this way. The cache.WDP would be created, but if you open the [GUI] it would show still as "off", which in fact it was because it didn't wipe out changes. If you tried to enable WDP throught the [command line] it would tell it was already "on" and would exit, but...if you tried through the [GUI] it was listed as "off", and when you cicked to turn it "on", it would reboot, but when the pc came back up, WDP would still not be "on". Furthermore ---> It wouldn't even uninstall! It kept saying it couldn't uninstall Steadystate if it was still running. I killed Bubble.exe and SCTUINotify.exe and SCTUI.exe and stopped the SCTSvc.exe windows service, even deleted the C:\Cache.WDP file and reg keys but it still would go away. I rebooted many many times, tried same stuff in normal & safe mode but nothing worked. Tried reinstalling SteadyState but it won't install over itself. Used the Windows installer cleanup utility to forcefully removed it but it still detected SteadyState's presence! I will say that SteadyState works perfectly fine if you do everything through the [GUI]. "/EnableWDPAndReboot" and "/DisableWDPAndReboot" both work fine if you have "enabled" WDP through the GUI at least once before using the *switches*. additional info: SteadyState v2.5 on a brand new fully updated XP sp3 machine (as of August 2010), imaged through Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 Update 1 & Server 2008 Windows Deployment Services. --Joe / Systems Analyst / Programmer / jaramirez@tlu.edu

Hi Joseph, for this kind of issue, you can first try the following steps and see the result: When the problem occurs, please check if there is a cache file (Cache.WDP) under drive C: As the cache file was hidden by default, we need to show the hidden files with the following steps: ------------------- 1. Click Start, then click Control Panel, and then click Folder Options. 2. Click the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders." 3. Clear the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" check box. 4. Clear the "Hide extensions for known file type" check box. Click OK. If Cache.WDP exists, we can manually delete it with the following steps: ------------------- 1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. 2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe Mode, and then press Enter. 3. Log onto Windows by using the Administrator account or any user account with the Administrator privileges. 4. Delete the Cache.WDP file under drive C. Restart the computer. 5. Start SteadyState, “Cache File Is Corrupted” windows will appear. 6. Select “Uninstall Windows Disk Protection and delete the corrupted cache file” and click OK. Then, let's try to enable WDP again. And if you want to uninstall Windows SteadyState entirely, there are some links may be helpful to you: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowssteadystate/thread/3fe06474-0348-42e5-a9f8-fec105e4d91f http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowssteadystate/thread/3177e8e9-1ec7-427a-81ac-6a31d473066e Hope this helps!
