( Discussion Board - Empty Category in New Discussion form when connected as collaborator

Hi,

I added a Web Element Discussion Board into a site, then created 2 categories.

I have an issue depending the user which is using the discussion board.

1. Moderators, Owners.  They are able to create new discussions, no issuein this case

2. Collaborators.  When creating a new discussion, Category List is empty (view attached) and cant proceed saving the discussion, because category is mandatory

Hi

How do you add a Web Element Discussion Board into a site and create 2 categories?

I have refer the following post to create discussion category for discussion board, and I can't reproduce your issue.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/bb716744-acdb-40c1-9c5b-7371b71ddece/how-to-create-discussion-category-for-discussion-board?forum=sharepointgenerallegacy

Besides if the Web Element Discussion Board is a third party tool, I suggest you ask third party for help.

More experts will assist you, then you will get more information relation to your issue.

I found the issue.

The site was created originally as community site.

So, if someone added the Discussion Board Web Part  in a subsite using Collaboration Template (where the parent site is community), the Discussion Board includes the field category, but it results in the problem described before.

If I use standard top collaboration site and add a discussion board, it does not includes cetegory.
